Shrinkage in cotton and linen products can be as much as 10% and reputable manufacturers will take this into account and make the correct allowances. Although products may seem oversized initially, after the first or second wash they will shrink to the correct size. A medium warm wash (60°C), and a warm tumble dry (where applicable), will shrink the product to the correct size and fit. You may have a different shrinkage ratio depending on the type of washing machine you use (front loading or top loading), the strength of the washing cycle of the machine and whether the product is machine or line dried. Although the majority of shrinkage happens in the first wash, it can take up to three washes for products to fully shrink to their correct size.
